Black History Month, also Known as African American History Month, is a month-long celebration that takes place annually in February in the United States. It honors the achievements and contributions of African Americans throughout history. The observance began in 1926 with the establishment of Negro History Week by historian Carter G. Woodson and was later expanded to Black History Month in 1976 with the encouragement of President Gerald Ford.
